DALs (Diversity and Language Services)
Since 30 June 2025, Ritchie Street Group Practice will be using DALs (Diversity and Language Services) to provide interpreting and translation support for patients who need help communicating in English.
We want to make sure every patient feels understood and able to access the care they need. DALs offers interpreting in over 500 languages, including British Sign Language (BSL), using trained, qualified interpreters.
Services Available for Patients
Face-to-Face Interpreting
- Booked in advance for your appointment
- Available for both spoken languages and non-spoken languages like BSL
Video Remote Interpreting
- Connect to an interpreter via a secure video link
- Can be pre-booked or accessed on demand (for BSL and other languages)
Telephone Interpreting
- Available instantly during your consultation
- No need to pre-book – your healthcare team can call an interpreter while you’re at the practice
Written Translation
Important letters, leaflets, and medical information can be provided in your preferred language
Support for Deaf Patients – InterpretersLive!
On-demand BSL video interpreting available between 8am – 8pm, 7 days a week
Works in person at the practice or during remote consultations
Accessible via any video device in front of you
How to Access Language Support
If you need an interpreter for your appointment, please let us know when booking. We can arrange:
- A face-to-face interpreter
- A video interpreter
- A telephone interpreter
- Translation of important documents
We recommend requesting interpreting services as early as possible to ensure availability.

This service is free of charge to all registered patients at Ritchie Street Group Practice
